Preslee Bonner
Edge Project
Pre-Project Reflection
I am so excited about this project and to be able to teach the new girls what is going on. This position is something that I hold so dear to my heart because this is the first memory I have of Alpha Phi. I can remember going into my new member classes and being so nervous but excited to learn about the organization that I joined.
I am hoping that I am able to teach the newest pledge class with my knowledge and with a lot of love. I want them to be able to trust me and come to me with anything that they may need. I want to be a good resource for them to be in the chapter and for them to have someone they could go to with any questions they may have about our meetings or any thing Alpha Phi related. I also think that this will help our first-year students to be able to connect with upper class men, which will be so beneficial for them to have that which will help the retention and allow them to continuously come back each semester.
I know that through the next few months after conference and throughout the summer I will be able to learn all the ins and outs of Alpha Phi and our new member program. I plan on growing up as a person and as a leader.
I am really worried that I won’t be good enough and that our new members won’t learn from me. I worry that they wont take me seriously or that they won’t listen to me. I am so nervous to disappoint anyone and I really just want this work out and everyone to be happy and initiated
From start to finish this project really helped shaped me into such a better leader. I was able to learn how to really teach a class effectively and have so much fun while doing it.
Long term I plan on running the children's justice center and with that will come teaching my own courses and programs to the families in the area. I think that it was a good start to begin on a class where I was teaching a subject that I was passionate about. I really learned so much about who I am as a teacher and a leader and I was able to bring my love for Alpha Phi into the classes. I was so proud of the new members and I was so happy when they are all able to get initiated.
